Mountain Lion Adoption Eclipses 10% Mark after First Month

A month ago, Chitika Insights reported that Apple desktops running Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8) generated 3.2% of all Mac-based Web traffic. Since Mountain Lion officially turned one month old last Saturday, Chitika Insights revisited this study to see how quickly Mac users were adopting the latest operating system now that the novelty has begun to wear.

iOS 6 vs. Android Jelly Bean: Initial Developer Interest Nearly Identical

iOS has traditionally seen a great deal more developer activity and app development than Android, due to the heavier usage patterns of iOS users. However, this has slowly changed, and iOS and Android now nearly split the marketplace in half when it comes to usage share. At Chitika Insights, our team looked to visualize the level of interest between both iOS 6 and Android’s Jelly Bean during the first 24 hours of availability to the developer community

Internet Access Platform Tracker Methodology

The purpose of the Internet Access Platform Tracker is to highlight the share of Web use for Tablets, Smartphones, and Desktop and the operating systems powering them. To determine the respective share of different personal computing devices, Chitika Insights performed an analysis of the unique impressions seen originating from Tablets, Smartphones, and Desktops within the Chitika Ad network.

Study: Windows 8 Release Preview Slow to Gain Traction

A recent study by Chitika Insights showed a positive launch for the Consumer Preview of Windows 8 with the new OS making up to 0.13% of all Windows traffic two months after it became available. Microsoft recently launched the Windows 8 Release Preview for PCs, and the response does not seem to be as enthusiastic as it was for the earlier version as Web traffic share percentages seem to be falling.

Report: iOS Users Driven to Update by Features Rather than Security

Apple’s latest update of its mobile operating system, iOS 5.1.1, provides several bug fixes and security improvements to its users. Chitika Insights observed adoption rates during the first week of release in a previous report, and now looks at updated data to examine adoption rates three weeks post-release. The three-week overall adoption rate of 57.9% represents an exponential increase in rate of adoption when compared to the 12.3% adoption in the first week. But notably, this is dwarfed by the adoption rate of iOS 5 in October of last year, which was installed on 20% of iOS devices in its first week.

Report: iOS 5.1.1 on More Than 12% of iOS Devices after First Week

Here at Chitika Insights our team was interested in seeing just how adamant iOS users were in their quest for secure browsing. We combed through tens of millions of ad impressions across our network, looking for devices that were utilizing any sort of iOS based software. From there we refined our results by breaking out iOS 5.1.1 devices and took a 24-hour rolling average in order to determine usage rates. According to our network data, Apple users (being the early adopters that they are) heeded experts’ warnings. Our network started to demonstrate a spike in iOS 5.1.1 traffic around 5:00 PM EST on May 7, trending upward to a high of 12.3% of all iOS traffic by May 10. This preliminary report shows a somewhat rapid pace of adoption, a trend that should persist, given the popularity of the iPad and iPhone devices.
