The new iPad Gobbles Up 5% of All iPad Traffic; CA, CT & NY new iPad “Hot Spots”

After much anticipation on Friday March 16th, 2012, The new iPad hit the market and proceeded to shatter first weekend sales records, moving 3 million units over the course of the weekend — the most successful launch for the iPad yet. Although “The new iPad” sported only a few major differences (most notably screen resolution) from earlier generations, thousands of consumers and Apple fans alike lined up around the block to be among the first with their hands on the product.

The new iPad Tracker Methodology

To see what percentage of iPads within the Chitika network are “The new iPad”, Chitika Insights performed an analysis of the unique impressions seen originating from an iPad and determined the share of these impressions represented by “The new iPad” by analyzing the user agent and the device’s screen resolution.

38% of Users Operating on Firefox 10 as Firefox 11 Rolls Out

In January 2012, Mozilla rolled out Firefox 10, just 6 weeks after introducing Firefox 9. Firefox is known for its rapid-release schedule, and with Firefox 11 set for release later today, there is no sign of slowing down. The most recent version of Firefox is known for its JavaScript and speed, and also marks the launch of Extended Support Release (ESR) for large businesses or organizations. ESR means these organizations can centrally deploy the latest version of Firefox and receive security updates throughout the year, but these updates will not make any changes to the web or any add-ons they may have downloaded.

Still Screaming for Ice Cream: Android’s Latest OS Running on 1.54% of Devices

On November 12th, 2011 the latest Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) became officially available as an open source download, and on December 15th, 2011, it made its public debut. Three months later, the Nexus S (the earlier flagship Google Phone) is the only device which has received official over-the-air updates to Ice Cream Sandwich. One might blame Google for lacking an effective distribution plan or failing to provide manufacturers’ early access to the OS – however, the problem may be deeper seeded than that.

RIM Web Browsing Market Share Drops 4%, Devices Make up Only .66% of Total Web Traffic

Once a thought leader and titan of technology, Research in Motion (RIM) has fallen through the ranks over the past several years to the point where it’s now trailing far behind its largest competitors. Decreasing worldwide sales, open pleas for change from high-level employees, much delayed management changes, and increased competition from rival mobile manufactures has crippled RIM and further diminished its ability to regain its stature as a leading mobile manufacturer.
