February 14th, better known as Valentine’s Day, is a day of indulgence celebrated by couples and singles alike. Whether you had a boyfriend or girlfriend, friends, or a tub of ice cream to spend it with, Valentine’s Day is hard to ignore.
Those who are looking to make the day special turned to the Internet, it seems, for ideas. Chitika Insights looked at hundreds of millions of impressions over the past week from our network to see just how many people had Valentine’s Day on their mind as the day approached. Specifically, we looked to see what the most popular Valentine’s Day related search queries were, and how frequently Valentine’s Day queries occurred.
Search queries containing the word “Valentines” showed a steady rise over the past week, hitting a peak of 2% presence in all US search queries. That means 1 of every 50 searches contained the word “Valentines.” We also saw a steady rise in the popularity of searches containing “gifts,” which, at its peak, accounted for 3.5 of every 1,000 queries.
Most notable is the sudden interest internet users have in crafting the perfect poem for their Valentine. The top 3 queries containing “Valentines” also contained “poems.” Furthermore, poem-related queries made up 4 of the top 10 Valentines searches.
Many Valentine’s Day lovers looked to the Internet for inspiration on how to make the day special for their significant other. With “ideas for girlfriend” ranking in the top 10, it’s of interest to see that the query “what to get your boyfriend for valentine’s day” doesn’t appear until much further down the list. Perhaps it’s a sign that more Valentine’s Day gifts go to the ladies, or that girlfriends know their sweetie so well they don’t need web based inspiration.
Single on Valentine’s Day? You were not alone. Our network saw a significant amount of searches related to singles ideas for celebrating Valentine’s Day. Needless to say, Cupid’s Day related queries made a mark on internet search volume and helped many romantics in their quest for the perfect poem, gift or text for their loved one.
Interesting!
