iPad Will Pass 2% of All Internet Usage in 2011: October Update

In January 2011, Chitika Insights predicted that the iPad would generate 2.3% of all internet traffic by the end of the year. Since then, we have been delivering updates to this projection in quarterly installments. Today we bring you the third installment of our iPad traffic projection series.

Using data collected from the Chitika network during the week of 10/1 to 10/7, we can see that the iPad is well on its way to meeting our projection of 2.3% total market share by December 2011. If the iPad continues to put up such impressive growth numbers, we believe it should easily meet our projections. We feel that this is even more likely given that many consumers will be exchanging iPads as gifts during this year’s holiday season.

What does this mean to you as a publisher? This growth in the iPad market is likely indicative of overall (albeit lesser) trends in the tablet market. As more and more attractive tablet devices become available to consumers at various price levels, this market undoubtedly will have plenty of room to grow. As a publisher, its important to take this demographic into account in terms of site monetization. This, like any other trend, is important to monitor closely so that you can make sure that your efforts to monetize your site are in-line with the ever-changing dynamics of the internet.
