Mobile Browser Market Breakdown: Apple’s Safari is in the Lead

With the large amount of news circulating around mobile recently, Chitika Insights thought it would be interesting to take a look at the composition of its mobile traffic by browser to determine the most popular user agent. Although most mobile devices come with a built-in browser, most users have the option of downloading a variety of external browsers from the respective app stores.

Looking at the data, Safari Mobile is the most popular mobile browser by far, capturing 56% of all mobile traffic in our sample. This is partially because Safari is the stock browser on all mobile devices produced by Apple (the iPad, iPod, and the iPhone). Chrome Mobile takes a close second with 37% of the market, mainly supported by the Android OS. Interestingly enough, this leaves only a fraction of the market available for the variety of independent and stock mobile browsers. For instance, both Internet Explorer and Firefox have mobile versions of their browsers available but see minimal numbers when it comes to their use.

Stay tuned to Chitika Insights for future updates concerning our Mobile Browser Breakdown. We plan to continue to dive into this data to provide you with greater comprehension of the mobile market.
