A little more than a year after its launch and the Apple iPad has already positioned itself as a leader in the tablet market, due largely in part to its vast array of apps which today topped 100,000. Six months ago, Chitika predicted in this article that the iPad would generate 2.3% of all internet traffic by December, 2011. Since today marks the first day of July and therefore the second half of the year, we figured we’d perform a midway checkup to see how our prediction is faring thus far.
Using data collected from the Chitika network during the week of 6/22 to 6/28, we can see that the iPad has almost doubled its market share since last December, currently sitting at 1.56%. Given the iPad’s growth since our first measurement last year, we feel that it is on track to meet our predicted mark by end of the 2011 calendar year.
