Well, this has to be a bit embarrassing for Google.
The Nexus One, touted over a year ago by the New York Times, among others, as Google’s personal rival to the iPhone, has not done well within the smart phone market.
Documented before by Chitika insights, the Nexus One has fallen flat on its face, well behind more popular Android devices.
Also documented recently by Chitika was the potential for the Motorola Xoom, and it appears that so far, the Xoom is performing decently. Our network shows a 0.468% market share of Android devices already, already putting it ahead of the Galaxy Tab and Streak.
While Google has to be happy that an Android tablet seems to be gaining some momentum, a sobering fact for the giant is that the Xoom, a tablet device released well over a year later, is already approaching the market share for its own Nexus One.
While Google has invested in a quality mobile operating system, it still obviously has a way to go when it comes to successfully developing and marketing its own smart phones.
Of course, with the recent announcement of the iPad 2, and the rave reviews it already seems to be getting (not to mention how thin the device is), it will be interesting to see how the Xoom can compete with a new and improved beast.
