10 Weeks and Growing: iPhone 5 Constitutes Over 1/8 of all iPhone Web Traffic

Apple’s iPhone 5 is estimated to have posted impressive sales figures since its release in September. Friday, November 30th marked 10 weeks since the iPhone 5 became available in stores, and Chitika Insights decided to investigate how usage of the device has grown.

We last reported on iPhone 5 adoption after its first weekend, when its users were generating 2.5% of all iPhone Web traffic in the U.S. and Canada. To quantify the current study, Chitika Insights examined a sample of millions of mobile ad impressions over the Chitika ad network ranging from November 8th to November 27th, 2012. iPhone 5 traffic was then identified through user agent analysis, and compared to all iPhone traffic to illustrate the growth of the iPhone 5 in the iPhone market as a whole This growth is represented as a rolling average for the past several weeks below:

The iPhone 5 is now generating 12.8% of iPhone Web traffic across the Chitika network, notably peaking at 13.5% over Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Looking over the long term since our last study in September, the steady upward trend is especially prominent.

10 weeks after its release, iPhone 5 usage continues to grow, and can be expected to rise at an even more dramatic rate over the holiday season.
