iPhone 5 Users Generate 2.5% of all iPhone Traffic after First Weekend

The launch of the iPhone 5 was one of the most highly anticipated events in recent memory when it comes to the technology space. On Friday, September 21st, the iPhone made its debut in stores, and preorders began to ship to online customers. By Monday, September 24th, Apple stated that worldwide sales had surpassed 5 million units.

Chitika Insights’ newest tracker looks to quantify how this newest device is impacting the marketplace, and how its launch compares to that of the new iPad, released this past March.

Three days following launch, iPhone 5 users constituted just over 2.5% of all iPhone Web traffic. This comparatively low number is the result of Apple’s present issues fulfilling all the existing orders for the device, despite the lofty sales numbers. These usage statistics point to the new iPad being much more of a “game changer” in terms of its affect on the market. Within the first 72 hours, new iPad Web use hovered around 5% of all iPad traffic – more than double the average of the iPhone 5. However, we expect this number to rise dramatically when units ship in the coming weeks.
