Windows 8 Announced – Is This the End for the iPad?

On September 13th, Microsoft unveiled Windows 8 to 5,000 developers at the Company’s build conference. The developer build previews the biggest change the operating system has undergone since its debut 16 years ago. Although Windows remains the dominant operating system for PC’s, growth in the market has slowed. Windows 8 is an attempt by Microsoft to re-establish themselves as a key player in the PC market.

Some of Windows 8’s newest features include touch screen capabilities (which will enable it to run on tablets) a built in app that shows current headlines from your preferred media sources, and uses Internet Explorer 10 as its default browser. It is also available to download here.

Chitika Insights looked at a series of data focused on the growth of Windows 8 traffic around the time of its release. By doing this, we could gauge the adoption rate of the new OS by developers. The day following its release, traffic from Windows 8 tripled. This rapid adoption rate has become typical of newly released products.

Insights plans to follow up this study in a week, where we’ll see if this growth continues at this accelerated rate.
