We’re approaching the Verizon iPhone’s two-week birthday, and as of right now Verizon is sending 6.1% of all iPhone traffic to our network. The question becomes, where is their growth coming from?
Earlier this year, we called the Verizon iPhone Android’s biggest threat, since the bulk of Android usage was on Verizon. However, surprisingly, Android has actually continued to grow in market share since the Verizon iPhone’s launch – it’s gone from 35% of all mobile impressions seen across the Chitika network to 37%.
So, what about the AT&T iPhone? Most assumed that was where the biggest wave of changing users would come from, and it appears to be the case. We looked at all mobile traffic except for Verizon iPhones over the same period of time, and found that the AT&T iPhone’s share went from 43% to about 40%.
The Verizon iPhone seems to be taking traffic away from some of the smaller device families, as well. BlackBerry Internet usage has dropped by about 7%, WebOS by 10%, and Windows Phone 7 by nearly 22%.
At the moment, it seems that the Verizon iPhone is taking market share away from just about everybody except for Android. Check back later in the week; we’re looking into how many completely new smartphone users the vPhone has created.
Keep up with the Verizon iPhone’s overall iPhone share with our live tracker.
