Last week, I was privileged enough to be part of a panel on mobile search marketing at the always excellent SMX East in New York. Among the data I presented was a breakdown of the mobile search market, showing that Google is completely dominating mobile search.
Based on traffic coming through the Chitika network, Google controls 97.22% of all mobile search traffic. Yahoo! checks in at second with 1.93%, Bing third with 0.6%, Ask with 0.23% and AOL with 0.03%.
Google’s market share in this market is staggering. Compare that to the much more competitive overall search landscape from the same time frame and sample:
Mobile is the new battlefield, and Google has a huge lead. Yahoo! currently drives the market share of the Microsoft/Yahoo! alliance, and it will be interesting to see what effect Windows Phone 7 has on mobile search. On September 29th at TechCrunch Disrupt, Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt predicted that mobile will become the majority of searches and revenue, and it looks like they’re off to a solid start.
